WHEN HOSTILITIES END
USE OF AVAR EQUIPMENT
(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.)
WELLINGTON, this day.
Declaring that when the war was over a tremendous amount of equipment would be available, Mr. Roy (Nat., Clutha), in the Address-in-Reply debate in the House of Representatives yesterday, _ expressed the hope that the persistent rumour that much of the material would be destroyed, was untrue. If it were "dumped" just for the sake of keeping up prices and markets, it would be a crying shame. He thought there was much machinery, tank engines and so on, that could be re-equipped and converted to farm machinery at little cost. The Minister of Supply, Mr. Sullivan: Nobody over here has ever heard of such a suggestion. Mr. Roy: I'm sorry if you have been so busy or so shut up in your office that you have not heard it, but it's a persistent rumour. Mr. Cotterill (Govt., Wanganui): Rumour is a lying jade. Mr. Roy: I hope I'm wrong, but if I happen to be right, I hope the position will be rectified.
