CHIEFTAIN MISSING

Private John A. Asher, recently reported missing in Italy, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Asher, of Tokaanu Lake, Taupo. Prior to enlisting at the age of 18 he was farming. He is a former student of St. Stephen's College and Massey Agricultural College, and is a chieftain of the Tuwharetoa, Ngaiterangi and Arawa tribes. His cousin. Lieutenant George Asher, of Auckland, was killed in the same action.
