AMERICAN ENVOY
POST IX THE DOMINION (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The nomination of Mr. Kenneth Stuart Patton as Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary of the United States in New Zealand was_ announced to-day by the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, who said that Mr. Patton had had a long career in the United States Foreign Service. Mr. Patton had held a number of important consular and diplomatic appointments in Europe.
Mr. Patton will be the third American Minister to New Zealand. The first was Brigadier-General Patrick J. Hurley, who held the appointment for a few months in 1942 before seeking more active war duties elsewhere, and the second was Mr. William Carter Burdett, who arrived last November and recently died in office.
The new Minister will come to New Zealand from Calcutta, where he has been United States ConsulGeneral for the last two years. Mr. Patton was born at Salem, Virginia, on July 22, ISB2, and he has been in his country's foreign service since 1908.
Mr. Patton is a man of many interests. He is an enthusiastic Reparian, and as an author he has written a book on the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and an industrial and commercial handbook.
