N.Z. RETURNED MEN

The problems of returned men and the need for direct representation in Parliament of their needs and grievances were stressed in an address given by Mr. John Hogan in the Lewis Eady Hall last night. "The overwhelming majority of people in. all walks of life sincerely want decent conditions and treatment for returned men and their dependants," said Mr. Hogan. "Yet we find an increasingly serious problem of dissatisfied and poorly treated men with little prospect of relief." New Zealand was capable of setting an example of a free democracy continued Mr. Hogan. The Dominion had the resources, was immune from the direct ravages of war, and was a small, highly-informed community with one Parliament. It must not let the returned men down.

The meeting was presided over by Mr. R. Hall Thompson. A farewell supper to Mr. and Mrs. Hogan, who are leaving shortly for Lower Hutt, was held later.
