BURMA OPERATIONS

Allied Successes On Three Sectors Of Front AMERICANS BEAT JAPS. Rec. noon. RUGBY, Mar. 9. British troops made a successful water-borne raid on a village south of Maungdaw, three nights ago, states South-east Asia headquarters. They have improyed their position in the high ground south of the Maungdaw-Buthidaung road and repulsed all counter-attacks.

West African troops in the Kaladan Valley continued to meet heavy opposition. While crossing the river north-east of Kyauktaw, they repulsed four attacks.

The Chinese, pushing south of the Oukawng Valley, captured Lashu Ga, on the left flank, and encircled a large number of the enemy between Maungkwan and Hpungnye, southwest of Maingkwan. The Chinese have captured Hpungnye and Shingban.

Extensive air operations were carried out by Allied planes, only two of which are missing.

The Japanese made a desperate attempt to cross the Chindwin River yesterday but American forces repulsed them, says the British United Press ccorrespondent with the United States forces in northern Burma. The waters of the river were turned red by the masPicre. Nearly 300 Japanese bodies were counted in the water.
