WELSH COAL STRIKE

7000 Scottish Miners Cease Operations N.Z. Press Association—Copyright Rec. 10.30 a.m. LONDON, Mar. 9. The Welsh coal strike extended to Scotland to-day when about 7000 miners in nine pits ceased work. The National Executive of the Mineworkers' Federation meeting in London deferred for a week its decision on the proposals from the Fuel Minister, Major Lloyd George, for a new basic wage structure so that the views of the districts could be ascertained.

The president, Mr. Lawther, said the executive looked on the Welsh stoppage as a veritable tragedy.

All the Glasgow dockers who struck in consequence of a dispute between two unions, have returned to work. They agreed to work extra shifts to overtake the arrears due to the stoppage.
