STRIKING TOWN CLOCKS
While on the subject of town clocks, I feel I would like to put in a word in favour of our boys coming home from the war. So many of them will be coming back with their nerves completely shattered, suffering from shell shock and so forth. Would it not be possible to make it compulsory for all striking town clocks to be automatically shut on, sav, from 11.30, or even 12 at night, and to start again at 6 a.m. I know of several soldiers after the last war who were nearly driven insane, not being able to sleep at night and hearing this continual strike, strike, strike all night long. Unfortunately, through no fault of our own, we don't all belong to the well and healthy class, as our crowded hospitals can well testify. I happen to be one who knows what a nightmare a striking town clock can be, ana know how I, for one would appreciate the quiet through the night. GRATEFUL
