OBITUARY
COMMANDER B. H. A. RIDGWAY
(0.C.) CAMBRIDGE, this day. A well-known resident of Roto-o-rangi. Commander B. H. A. Ridgway, 0.8. E., R.N.R. (retired), has died at the ago of 71. Commander Ridgway was born at Halifax, Yorkshire, in 1872. He went to sea in 1885, serving on H.M.S. Conway for three years. From 1888 to 1892 he was on the sailing ship Glen Alvon, after which he joined the P. and O. line, serving with the company in India, China and Japan. On retiring from the sea in 1905, he became managing director of a pottery firm. He joined his two sons in New Zealand when this business was disposed of. Commander Ridgway held an extra master's cetrificate and a commission in the R.N.R. since 1902. He won the Royal Humane Society's certificate while at Hongkong. In the last year, he was a transport officer in Italy, Marseilles, Trieste and Cyprus, receiving the 0.8. E., and being twice mentioned in dispatches He is survived by two sons, and there are two grandsons.
