CAPTAIN C. B. DANIEL
Captain Charles Bamford Daniel senior inspector of fisheries at Auckland, has died at the age of 60. He had lived on the North Shore for most of his life, and was well known throughout the Dominion for his work in the cultivation of oysters and the conservation of fish. Captain Daniel was born in Devonshire, England, coming to New Zealand with his parents when a child. He went to sea at the age of 13 and served in the colonial and island trade and as a seaman on an American barque running between New York and Auckland. .He gained his mate's ticket when 20 and his master's ticket a year later. He was married in 1910, and left the sea. to join the Devonport Steam Ferry Company, where he worked for three years. He was then with the Government light service at Hokianga.
In 1916 Captain Daniel joined the Government shipping office's Marine Department, later transferring to the Fisheries Department, where he remained till his death. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. There are five grandchildren.
