ORAKEI
Some years ago a local architect prepared plans for a complete Maori pa for Orakei, which made pn> vision for every aspect of Maori life, and incorporated all modern, ideas of sanitation and also comfortable homes of native design. Now is the opportunity for the public to step in and help. The association could launch an appeal for £50,000 for this very necessary work, which, besides being unique and illustrative of the Maori, would also settle the vexed question, of housing... IWe, 1 would' :be" showing our appreciation- of the : Maori who have their rights, and it would also be a monument to our fine Maori soldiers who are fighting and dying at the front. This would be a centre for their arts and crafts, and a great attraction for overseas visitors. There are many matters to be considered and settled, but there is every reason to presume that assistance would come from both the Government and the City Council: PAKEHA.
