RATIONING AT DUNEDIN
ACUTE COAJj SHORTAGE
(P.A.) DUNEDIN, this day. j The rationing of coal gas to domestic consumers in Dunedin commenced last night. This measure, which was put into effect by means of a reduction in pressure between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m., has been made necessary by the acute shortage of coal supplies from the West Coast, and unless the daily qiiota of 50 tons necessary to maintain a normal supply can be guaranteed, it is anticipated that rationing will have to be enforced, for the 24 hours of a An announcement that 150 tons of coal were in transit to Dunedin and that it was hoped to make further deliveries shortly, was received last night by the Mayor, Mr. A. H. Allen, from the Minister of Mines, Mr. Webb It was pointed out by Mr. Allen however, that this consignment represented only three days supply for the gasworks
