RIVER RESCUES
AWARDS TO CONSTABLES
WOMAN'S EFFORT COMMENDED (0.C.) WANGANUI, this day. Constables W. G. Adsett and R. C. Voullaire, of Wanganui, have been awarded framed certificates by the Royal Humane Society for their rescue of three youths from a capsized yacht in the lower reaches of the Wanganui River, and Mrs. G. M. Edmonds has received a letter of commendation from the society for her rescue of a child from the river, near the Dublin Street bridge.
The child fell into deep water and disappeared, and Mrs. Edmonds, who was wheeling a child in a pram along the Parade, ran down the bank and dived in fully clad to bring the child ashore. After seeing the child respond to resuccitation and taken into a nearby private hospital, she disappeared, and her identity was not discovered until later. The Mayor, Mr. W. J. Rogers, M.L.C., has consented to present the awards on a suitablp occasion-
