OBITUARY

MR. T. M. SHEPHERD

A resident of Birkdale for over 50 years and representing the second of four generations who have lived there, Mr. Thomas Medland Shepherd, died at his home yesterday at the age of 71. Mr. Shepherd was born at Mount Eden and was a son of Mr. H. M. Shepherd, of Taranaki and Birkdale. and a grandson of Mr. John Shepherd, who arrived from England in the barque Amelia Thompson, in 1841. He was 30 years a member of the Birkdale school committee and served a term on the Birkenhead Borough Council. Mr. Shepherd was also president of the Birkdale Fruitgrowers' Association for 10 years. He was a keen cricketer in his younger days, and was president of the Birkdale Cricket Club. Mr. Shepherd is survived by his wife, two sons, one daughter and seven grandchildren.
