WITHOUT GUMBOOTS
WORKER'S COMPLAINT STATEMENT TO TRIBUNAL A complaint that he was not properly equipped for his work at the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company was made by Milan "Volkovich, a labourer, when he appealed at a sitting of the Auckland Industrial Manpower Committee this morning against the refusal of the manpower officer to allow him to terminate his employment. The appellant said that he suffered from rheumatism, but he had to work in the wet all the time, and was not allowed a pair of gumboots. The chairman, Mr. J. O. Liddell said that it was not right that men should work under such conditions He thought that employers should be present to answer when matters of such a nature were raised. Mr. W. A. Leggett, representing the manpower officer, said that the grounds of the appeal set down by the appellant were that the work was too hard and too heavy. No mention was made about the difficulty of getting gumboots or the appellant's suffering from rheumatism. The committee reserved its decision, the chairman advising the appellant to see his union regarding the conditions under which he worked
