VICE-REGAL VISIT

MAORI PRINCESS' INVITATION

Princess Te Puea, on behalf of her nephew, King Koroki, has written to his Excellency the GovernorGeneral, Sir Cyril Newall, inviting him to visit Ngaruawahia on March 25, 1944. PI is Excellency's official visit to the Waikato was originally postponed owing to the outbreak of war.

It is the Princess' intention to hold a special regatta in honour of the Governor-General, proceeds to go to the Marae Fund of the Maori war effort. The Princess stated, that the people of the Waikato regretted that his Excellency had been unable to visit them before, and hoped he would honour them next March.
