PLANT RESEARCH

PALMERSTON NORTH SCHEME

(0.C.)

WELLINGTON, this day,

Cabinet approval has been given to the erection of a wing of the new building project in Palmerston North for the plant research bureau of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. This section will accommodate the plant of the chemistry laboratory which was destroyed when a division of the building was burned down towards the end of 1940. A start is being made with the chemistry laboratory section first, because the laboratory staff is at present working at a great disadvantage, and because it is engaged upon important investigations relating particularly to the dehydration of vegetables and fruit, and the production of vitamins from plant materials.
