NEW GOVERNMENT METHOD

LONDON, Dec. 11

The Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Hudson, addressing a luncheon to celebrate the centenary of the periodical, "Farmer and Stockbreeder," expressed satisfaction with the results of Government advertising in the Press.

"Press advertisements represent a new element in the machinery of government," he said. "As a medium of educating the public, they are probably unexcelled. A recent Ministry of Information survey for the Department of Agriculture showed that farmers pay a great deal of attention to our advertisements."

The Minister of Information, Mr. Bracken, in a speech at a celebration of the 21st birthday of the 8.8.C., referred to suggestions that the 8.8.C. might agree to accept advertising.

"I would be surprised if the British public would approve the introduction of commercial broadcasting," he said. "I, as an old, crusted Tory, object to monopolies. I see no reason why healthy competition should not be developed within the structure of the 8.8.C. A measure of broadcasting home rule might be given to a number of regions. If that policy were adopted, the 8.8.C. would become the mother of a number of really healthy competitive enterprises, and would thereby get rid of some of the stain of monopoly."
