BATTLEDRESS PAID WAY
(Special) HAWERA, Thursday. Battledress returned from Riccarton on Tuesday. He made quite a bold showing against ilic champion Kindergarten, and collected £250 for second place money. His Otaki winnings amounted to £333, so the Hawera horse paid well over expenses for the trip. Corday ran right tip to his track form to win comfortably at Bulls on Saturday, and will next race at the Taranaki meetings during the holidays. Corday is very honest, and looks like collecting a middle distance race early. 11. Brough decided not to take Alderman to Woodville, the youngster having contracted a slight cold. Clarice was a late scratching for her engagement at Vtangitikci. but has gone on to Woodville to fulfil her sprint engagement there. 11, George's team disappointed at Bulls. where Meermint's chances were highly assessed. lOdina ran two fourths, and Gay Theio was not lucky in his run in the' maiden. The last-named can be kept strictly on side for a maiden event. Mr." \V. O. Williams' commandinglooking gelding Sir Knight, appears to be standing up to his work soundly, and should come near winning during the holiday racing.
