CONTROL OF POWER
MEETING ESSENTIAL NEEDS Restrictions of power were referred to yesterday by the chairman of the Auckland Electric Power Hoard, Mr. S. J. Harbutt, who said that as a result of a recent amendment to the Electricity Control Order, 1943, only demands having a direct bearing on the war effort, including the supply of essential commodities for war purposes, would in future be permitted to receive extended supplies of electricity. No supplies to new industries, except those approved as directly associated with the war effort, would be permitted, and no extension of supply to existing industries, other than those approved, would be permitted, and then only provided that no substitute for electricity was available. New houses, which were to be in continuous occupation, would be supplied, but holiday baches and similar houses for periodical use would not be connected. Each supply authority had the power to take action to keep the supply within the limits allowed by the controller.
