SENT TO BORSTAL
CONVERSION OF A CAR The unlawful conversion of a motor car worth £240 on November 26 and breach of probation were charges brought against a youth of 18, Leonard Robert Lovich, factory hand, in tne Police Court to-day. Lovich pleaded guilty. Senior-Detective Walsh said Lovich was before the Supreme Court on June 17 last on charges of breaking and entering and unlawful conversion of a motor car. Lovich was admitted to probation for three years. On November 26 Lovich and two other youths left Auckland in a converted motor car and went to Hamilton. On the return to Auckland the car overturned and was badly damaged. Lovich was arrested by Detective H. A. Wilson last night. In his possession was an ignition key belonging to another motor car which had been unlawfully converted, but Lovich was not charged with this offence. Lovich had nothing to say. The magistrate, Mr. F. H. Levien, said Lovich apparently had not been impressed by the leniency granted him by the Supreme Court. On the charge of unlawful conversion Mr. Levien sent Lovich to a Borstal institute for a period of two shears. On the second charge he was convicted and discharged.
