SOLDIERS FOR FARMS
FIRST ROTORUA BATCH
(0.C.) ROTORUA, this day. The first batch of soldiers who are to help local farmers have arrived in Rotorua. Although the Rotorua Primary Production Council was under the impression that the initial draft of soldiers who are being employed to help farmers under the Government's recently announced scheme would not be arriving in Rotorua until November 25, 10 men reached Rotorua last week-end, and official notification was not received by the secretary, Mr. J. H. Herrold, until Monday last. These soldiers are some of a group who have been sent to the Hamilton, Te Aroha, Morrinsville, Te Awamutu and Rotorua areas. Those mobilised on November 24 will take in a wider field, and in addition to districts mentioned will go to Waihi, Paeroa, Matamata, Cambridge, Tirau, Otorohanga and similar farming centres. In the December-January period the Bay of Plenty will be included.
Referring to the 10 men now in Rotorua, Mr. Herrold stated yesterday that they were a fine tvpe and he had been able to place them in employment shortly after notification had been received by the council.
