RECORD TOTAL

ST. JOHN STREET APPEAL

A DONATION OF £1000

A contribution of £1000 by Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Wilson had a substantial effect on the amount raised in the street appeal of the St. John Ambulance Association yesterday, and the £4000 raised was a record total. Appreciation of the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Wilson was expressed by Mr. S. E. Langstone, secretary-manager of the association. Among the contributions received were: Birkenhead £92, Otahuhu £134, Papatoetoe £87, Onehunga £112, One Tree Hill £67, Takapuna £113. The sum of £117 was received from waterside workers. A number of returns are still to come. Mr. Langstone said this morning that in view of the calls by way of war loans and patriotic contributions, he realised that this time the public had sacrificed much of its spare cash. He thanked also the collectors.
