BEST SHORT STORY

"We'll Go Together," by Ruth Godley, the story which wins this month's prize of 2/G, is unlike any of the other tales we have published in these competitions. It is very well written, with an ironic climax that would do credit to, an adult writer. The atmosphere is also vivid. Can't you just see the barge going down the river between the flower-filled banks in the early morning?

The other stories which will see publication are:—"Golden Gorse," by Daphne Whiter, Onehunga (14), and "Myree's Adventure," by Dawn Stephens, Takapuna (17), two imaginative tales of the type our young writers have been doing very well lately; "My Sister Phoebe," another amusing effort, by Brian Fisher, Papatoetoe (14); and "Pearlyheart's Adventures," a quaint little story by 10-year-old Adrienne Wilton, Remuera.

The November short story contest is now open to all boys and girls under 18. Limit your tales to 600 words or less, write on one side of the paper only, and state your name, age and address. Post to reach this office by Saturday, November 27. Half-crown prize for the best story received. Criticisms will be given for those who ask for them.
