Morris, for some years past one of the most successful trainers in New Zealand, retires this week from that branch of the sport and intends to concentrate on starting, at which he has shown some aptitude. Morris saddled his last winner, Flyinj: Ace, on the second day of the Wanganui meeting. His stables at Awapiini are to be taken over by H Griffith, of Hastings. J. Langford has retired from the position as private trainer to Mr. D. M. Tweedie, Invercargill, and for the time being Mr. Tweedie is supervising the preparation of his own horses. Langford was responsible for the training of most of the progeny of Francolin, including the latest winner, Royal Flight. When Classform raced at the Wanganui meeting she appeared in the race card as being trained by her owner, Mr. C. Boyd. The former Aucklander, R. Thomson, who prepared her last season, has given up training to enter business in Feilding. TROTTING PROGRESS "The success achieved by representatives of the united associations in the advocacy for some improvements in the handicapping system fully justified the formation of a New Zealand organisation," said Mr. C. Cowan in his annual report to members of the Auckland Trotting Owners, Trainers . and Breeders' Association on Tuesday. The report showed that the past season had been highly successful in every respect. The executive had invested £185 in war bonds.
