SUSAK TAKEN
YUGOSLAV PARTISANS Shock Troops Penetrate Into City Of Trieste Rec. 10.30 a.m. LONDON, Sept 23. Algiers radio quoted a Yugoslav communique stating that Susak, the Yugoslav portion of Fiume, in the Northern Adriatic, has fallen into the hands of the People's Army of Liberation, the Partisan troops, after heavy fighting. Earlier reports said that violent battles were raging and added that the guns of Susak were shelling the German positions in Fiume itself. Heavy fighting was progressing in Bosnia, along a line of about 60 miles from Bihac to Knin.
Among the many guerilla actions going on in the Balkans just now two major battles have developed, says a correspondent in Cairo. One is for the control of the Dalmatian ports and the other, further north, is for the Slovene railways. Slovene shock troops of the Yugoslav Partisan Army have penetrated into Trieste, where they are supported, by the population, says British Official Wireless. They are engaged in street fighting against the German garrison, according to a special Yugoslav communique. Slovene units are now fighting on a 125-mile long front from Gorizia, north of Trieste, to Ljubljana, along which, in the last two days, four German attacks have been repulsed. Slovene and Montenegrin units disarmed eight Italian divisions and another Italian division, with its commanding generals, joined the Yugoslav Army of Liberation and is now fighting against the Germans.
