FOR WOMEN AIR FORCE WEDDING

DOWNEY—McDERMOTT

WHITE SLIPPER SATIN WORN

A pretty wedding was solemnised at St. Matthew's Church on Saturday, September IS, when Miss Iris Olene McDermott, eldest daughter of Mrs. A. McDermott. of Auckland, formerly of Eltham, Taranaki, was married to Corporal Kenneth John Downey, R.N.Z.A.F., only son of Mr. and Mrs. J. N. Downey, of Mount Albert. Canon Coats officiated.

The bride, wno was escorted by her grandfather, Mr. G. Bogan, wore a lovely gown of white slipper satin with a lace yoke and a flared skirt, which formed a long graceful train trimmed with lace insertions. Her beautiful silk net veil, which was appliqued with satin lovers' knots, was held in place by a coronet of orange blossoms. A sheaf bouquet of white hyacinths, stock and cyclamen completed a charming picture. The bridesmaids, Miss Jocelyn Downey, sister of the bridegroom, and Miss June Bogan, cousin of the bride, were frocked alike in Marina green taffeta, with bodices of silk velvet to tone. Lovers' knots of the same material were appliqued on the circular skirts. A unique touch was added by their quaint hats of pink silk crinoline straw, trimmed with flowers and net. Their lace mittens and bouquets of the same flowers as the bride's toned with the hats. The bridegroom was assisted by Corporal R. W. Lightfoot, R.N.Z.A.F., as best man, and L.A.C. J. Waddilove as groomsman.

A reception and dance was held afterwards at the Parnell Rose Garden Kiosk, where over 100 guests were received by the bride's motsier, who wore navy blue, relieved with white. She was assisted by the bridegroom's mother, who was in rose pink with grey accessories. Both wore shoulder sprays of pink hyacinths.
