STEADY TONE PREVAILS

Less business was done on the Auckland Stock Exchange to-day than yesterday, and the tone remained firm throughout. In their first sale since April, Union Steam prefs. changed hands at < £1 31/, a rise of 1/3. British Tobaccos, which were Quoted ex dividend yesterday, showed, at £2 7/6, a gain of 3d on the cum dividend price. There was fairly heavy buying of 3 per cent stock in the Third Liberty Loan at the unchanged price of £9S. "Sellers were more numerous than usual in the Government section.
