BEEF SUPPLIES
STATE STOCKS HELP
RELIEF IN AUCKLAND
In order to assist local butchers to meet the demands of their customers for beef during the existing shortage the Government has made available from its stores a total of 1500 quarters of beef. This is aciuivalent to one week's supply on the Auckland market, and, added to the quantity available from other sources, it will be of , great assistance -for the time being.'
The extremely high values which ruled on the Westfield market this week will probably result in a large number of fat and forward cattle being sent in for next week's sale, and it is probable that for the next fortnight the supply will equal the demand. After that the number of cattle sent in to the saleyards is likelj r to decrease again, and in two or three weeks' time the position is again likely to prove grave.
