BANK'S EARNING POWER
Wartime contraction in overdrafts and increase in deposits were major factors in lower profits, said the chairman, Mr. W. Hamilton Hart, at the annual meeting of the Queensland National Bank, Ltd. At the same time, interest rates and avenues of investment were controlled by regulation. The material increase in deposits was mainly part of the vast amounts disbursed by the Government and not returned to it by way of loan and taxation. Liquid assets were 71.1 per cent, and public liabilities, equivalent to 14/3 in the pound, which means a very low earning power.
