PRISONERS IN MINES
Work In Industrial Centres In Japan REPORT TO RED CROSS Rec. 1 p.m. SYDNEY, this day. Prisoners of war in seven camps in Japan are working in coalmines and as stevedores, according to an official report received by the Australian Red Cross. The camps are near the big industrial centres of Kukuoka 'and Übeshinakawa. The report states that prisoners at other camps on the islands in Japan's inland sea are engaged on similar work. The normal working hours for prisoners are eight hours a day. The wages are very low. In some camps one rest day is given in seven. In others it is given only once in 13 days.
