CHORAL PROGRAMME
An exceptionally interesting and entertaining programme was presented by the Royal Auckland Choir at its second concert of the season given in the Town Hall Concert Chamber last evening. Among a number of well chosen and well-contrasted part songs were: "Lowlands (Warrell), in which the base solo was pleasingly taken by Mr. W. Forrest; Bach's "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring"; a much appreciated arrangement of Sullivan's "The Lost Chord"; and Abt's "Holy Calm and Stillness" (soloist, Master Ralph Cocks).
. Two numbers in lighter vein, "Mary Had a Littie Lamb," and "Old Mother Hubbard," rounded off a most enjoyable concert. The choir sang throughout "con amore," and with much sympathetic expression. Mr. Harry Woolley, conductor, is to be congratulated on an outstanding success. The assisting vocalist was Miss Hilda Chudley, of Wellington, who delighted her listeners by the appealing quality of her well-controlled mezzo-con-tralto voice in a number of songs, including compositions by Handel, Schumann, Grieg and Rachmaninoff. The instrumentalist for the eVening was Mr. Felix Millar, a most promising young violinist, who played Hayden's "Sonata in G Major," also "Allegro Brilliant" (Willem Ten Have), with a delightful quality of tone. Both singer and violinist were enthusiastically recalled to give supplementary numbers. Mr. Alan Pow excelled in the pianoforte accompaniments.
