KEEN TO SERVE
CASE OF MACHINIST
EMPLOYERS' APPEAL UPHELD
A successful appeal to retain the services cf a machinist was made by R. Greer and Son at a sitting of the No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board this morning. The reservist, Joy Nicholson; said that she had volunteered over two years ago for service with the air force. She desired to take up work with the air force in connection with radio location, and maintained that it would take only a day for another machinist to learn how to work the machine on which she was engaged. The manpower officer, Mr. C. G. S. Ellis, said that clothing manufacturers could not get out the orders coming in from the armed Services.
In granting an adjournment sine die, the chairman, Mr. C. R. Orr Walker, S.M., said that if the position became easier at Messrs. Greer and Son's establishment the reservist might be released. Mr. Ellis pointed out, however, that she would still be subject to direction by the manpower officer. "Keep on with 'The Song of the Shirt,'" remarked Mr. T. P. McCready, a member of the board, to the reservist.
