THE DROUGHT
The serious position of our water supply appears to have its origin in the lack of foresight of our City as representing a crosssection of the community. We should, long, ago, have abandoned village pump" civics. We should realise that the rapid increase in population in recent times will continue with greater speed when the country settles down again to peaceful pursuits. The tentative proposals for a metropolitan scheme for bringing water from sources which are illimitable must not be allowed to be pigeonholed because of alleged financial difficulties. It has never been suggested that the countless millions which have been raised for the proi cution of the war are beyond our means. C. E. ARCHIBALD.
