CHAIRMAN'S REBUKE

AGAINST MANPOWER OFFICER "The manpower officer has no right to make a direction when a case has been adjourned by us," said Mr. J. O. Liddell, chairman of the Manpower Industrial Appeal Committee this morning. The case being heard was that of E. M. Tredrea, formerly employed by Barker, Smith and Lynch, Ltd. When a previous appeal was lodged by Tredrea, on the grounds that his health did not permit him to stand factory hours, the appeal was adjourned, the committee agreeing to allow appellant to work in his boot repairing shop at home. At this morning's sitting, on behalf of Barker, Smith and Lynch, Ltd., it Avas stated that Tredrea had since been directed by the manpower officer to another factory, and this information provoked Mr. Liddell's remarks. Decision was reserved.
