SOME SPORTS POSTPONED

For the 24 hours' p.eriod, ending at 9 o'clock this morning, the,, rainfall was .24 inches, making a total of 1.60 inches for the two and a half days of the present month. Yesterday, the wind changed from the nor'-nor'-west quarter to sou'west. . There has been rain, following drought conditions, over a wide area .in the province. In parts of the Northland area it was exceptionally | heavy, being over 7 inches in a 48 hours' period. Auckland, and as far south as Franklin county, had a generous, share, but in some of the Waikato districts the fall was comparatively light. Heavy grounds necessitated the postponement of some sports, including the Auckland Cricket Association's matches at Eden Park, and the Suburban Cricket Association's games at the Domain. Position in Waikato A more substantial and, therefore, a more gratifying fall of rain was experienced yesterday and last night, the total for 20 hours to 9 o'clock this morning being .90 inches, states a message from Hamilton. This brought the rainfall for the past two days to 1.11 inches. Following light rain, which did not promise to amount to much, the nor'easterly wind switched to the north, bringing a heavy downpour soon after 4 o'clock yesterday. This lasted for nearly one hour. Throughout last night there were further heavy falls, but this morning the wind had switched right roμnd to the west, and the rain had ceased. However, conditions were still threatening, and more showers were likely. The barometer, which read 29.55 at 9 o'clock this morning, was still falling. A continuance of the high temperatures was forecast., The replenishment of water-stocks had been , the cause of great relief. The stormy wind on Thursday night and yesterday caused damage to the less hardy plants, but no other damage was reported.
