ASSAULT CHARGES

Facing two charges of assault on Maoris, Thomas Edward Martin pleaded guilty in the Police Court this morning and was sentenced by Messrs. W. A. Simpson and W. A. Donald, J.P.'s, to one month's imprisonment. Police evidence was that Martin had a grudge against Maoris and in a city hotel yesterday assaulted two of them without provocation.

Desmond Alfred Delacney, a soldier, aged 20 years, caused a * disturbance at a crowded cabaret last night while in a drunken condition. This morning he pleaded guilty to assault and the use of obscene language. He was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment on the first charge and convicted and discharged on the second.
