ON WAR WORK
EX-PUBLIC SERVANTS
SUPERANNUATION PAYMENTS
(By Telegraph—Parliamentary Reporter). WELLINGTON, this day. Two petitions seeking the repeal of a section of the Public Service Superannuation Act on the ground mat the petitioners were adversely affected by the operation of this section now that they had come out of retirement to do war work werpresented in the House of Representatives yesterday. There were 36 signatures to the petitions. The petitioners said they had retired from the civil service on superannuation, but as a war effort bad resumed employment in the service and were performing duties different from those they carried out before their retirement. Thev contended that the section of the Act about which they complained had the effect of .depriving them of part of their superannuation allowances, which they had paid for by a percentage contribution from their salaries since 1909, and by long and faithful service as Government employees. They also stated that exrailway servants on superannuation ex-employees of local bodies on superannuation, and ex-employees of commercial institutions on superannuation re-employed "on war service duties of a special nature continued to enjoy their full superannuation allowance as well as the salary attachable to the duties on which they were employed.
