BRILLIANT TEST
GAY ROSETTE IN FORM ACTIVITIES AT TE RAPA (Special.) HAMILTON, this day. An impressive effort over a round byGay Rosette and Foxlore was the outstanding feature of the final trails at Te Hapa this morning when the course pr.oper, well out from the rails, was in splendid order for galloping. Several other pleasing efforts were also recorded, the best over half a mile being that of Kinstep, while over five furlongs Viking Path, Blue Fox, Here Tere, Jovial Lass and Gay Lally did best. Glenbevan and Aguilo took the honours over six furlongs. Foxlore gave Gay Rosette and Laughing Fox a start of some four or five lengths at the commencement of a round and was within half a length of Gay Rosette at the completion of the effort. Laughing Fox set out to establish a torrid pace in the early stages, and he was leading clear over the first half-mile in 52 3-ss, the five in 1.6, and six in 1.20 4-5. From then on, Gay Rosette and Foxlore commenced to close the gap, and there was little between the trio as they raced to the straight. In the closing stages, Laughing Fox tired and Gay Rosette carried on to hold Foxlore in the excellent time of 2.0 4-5. Gay Rosette has recently been affected by a filled leg, but there did not appear to be anything the matter with her this morning, and she will only need to reproduce that gallop to take a power of beating at Matamata. It is interesting to note that Marinoto and Acquest completed a similar effort in 2.10, Vaalsmoss (Hain) in 2.11 and Brandon Hall (Glllighan) and Surpai (Hain) 2.10. Kinstep (Gillighan) showed her customary dash by sprinting home from the half-mile in 50 2-ss, the last three furlongs in 38s. She looks in good order for racing ahead. Viking Path, Blue Fox and Rere Tere hit out over five furlongs in 1.51, Gay Lally and Jovial Lass requiring the same time. Foxsen (Gillighan) and Taumerei (Mclnally) were associated over five furlongs, the former doing the better of the pair in 1.81, time on which Foxsen could have improved. The best-six furlongs of the morning was that of Glenbevan (McFarlane) and Aguilo (Ensor), which traversed the distance in 1.18 2-5. Both horses executed their work pleasingly, and are in forward condition for pending engagements. A useful half was that of Gunman (Brown), which was shading Extra (M. Caddy) in 52 l-ss. Kinvara (Goulsbro) accounted for Erndale (M. Caddy) and Varuna (W. Caddy) over six furlongs in 1.21 4-5. Kinvara should soon make amends for recent disappointments. Powys and Sea Mist came home from the five-furlong peg in 1.6. On the plough Happicoat and Venture, of E. George's team, ran half a mile in 50s.
