ROTORUA CUP TRIAL
COROT PLEASES AX ELLERSLIE The best trials at Ellerslie this morning were credited to Nizam and Subadar over a short course, while Corot and Phaleron impressed over seven furlongs. No. 2 grass track was in use and the going hard and fast. Jumping away smartly, Nizam reeled off four furlongs in 49 2-ss. He was doing his work in good style at the end. Subadar, carrying a light weight, also went four furlongs, which he left behind in 50 3-ss. This two-year-old is working more freely now and should win again this autumn. Corot, which is to contest the Rotorua Cup on Saturday, shaded Phaleron, with Dependable further back, at the end of seven furlongs run in 1.29 2-5. It was a good trial as both horses covered a bit of extra ground. Other gallops:— Three Furlongs.—Kraal, 375; Lady Oraline, 38 4-ss; Katie Scarlett, 38s. Four Furlongs.—Gay Winkle, 50 3-os; British Victory, 51 l-ss; Gaymeer, 52 4-ss; Wee Pay, 525. Six Furlongs.—Pennywhistle, 1.17 3-5. Seven Furlongs.—British Talent, 1.33 i-5. OWNERS' REMINDERS Acceptances for events to be decided at the Waikato Racing Club's summer meeting at Te Rapa on Saturday, February 20, will close to-morrow at 5 p.m. with Messrs. Blomfield and Company, Auckland, and at 8 p.m. with the secretary, Mr. E. H. O'Meara, Hamilton. Nominations for events at the Franklin meeting at Te Rapa on March 6 close to-morrow at 5 p.m. with Messrs. Blomfield and Company, and at 6 p.m. with the secretary, Mr. W. J. Short, Pukekohe. JOHN GAY'S RATING John Gay, which returned the biggest dividend at Trentham, would have paid an even larger one if he had been able to reverse positions with Botany in the Cashmere Plate. On that occasion he was seventeenth in order of favouritism. John Gav, which cost Mr. H. D. Greenwood 210gs as a yearling, comes from the same family as Runnymede, My Own, Raasay and the notorious Simba.
