WEEK REVIEWED SHARES STILL FIRMER ACTIVITY IN AVAR LOANS Taking into account the short business week, a substantial turnover was recorded on the Auckland Stock Exchange up to the last call yesterday before the long week-end. Values continued on the up-grade, and the progress of the market in recent weeks was well reflected by the prices obtained for stocks which had been unobtainable for long periods. Ear.ly in the week sellers displayed a tendency to hold off and buyers in some cases were again obliged to raise their limits to do business. Operations covered a wide field, especially among New Zealand securities, in which investors have developed a catholic taste, all classes of industrial and trading company shares being keenly sought. Auckland issues to register further advances included Farmers' Tradings, Consolidated Bricks, Dominion Breweries, Wilsons Cements, Auckland Gas, K.D.V. Boxes, Leyland O'Briens, Northern Steams and Reid Rubbers. , ' There was moderate activity In banks and the steady firming trend was unchecked for all issues. Holders of insurance scrip were again largely absent, resulting in a small turnover. South British moved ahead to a new high level yesterday at £3 9/. Australian stocks were as keenly sought as ever, and trading was only restricted by sellers reluctance to quit.. Electrolytic Zinc ordinaries revealed a rise of 11/t> since the last transfer here about six months ago. , , Although Government stocks and war loans moved freely during the four days dealing, the seasonal demand for funds for payment of rates and income tax is not so discernible this year, undoubtedly owing to the high degree of liquidity m the business community. There are plenty of buyers for the parcels of war loans coming on to the market, most of which are below par. Apart from a slight easing in the 3 per cent issue of the last Liberty Loan, values were generally firm.
