The ratio ox Japanese to American plane losses is six to one. American torpedo boats hit two Japanese destroyers, and possibly a third, off Guadalcanar Island in the Solomons. After the encounter the enemy steamed off to the north-west. On the island of Guadalcanar the Americans are still gaining ground.
