Aerial And Land Assaults Against Japs, SIGNIFICANT CHINESE VICTORY Ree. noon. LONDON,. Jan. 14. A communique issued from New Delhi states that R.A.F. bombers yesterday morning attacked Kyautaw, on the Kaladan River. All bombs burst on the target area and considerable damage was caused. Other bombers Tate yesterday attacked Japanese-occupied villages on Akyab island and also bombed enemy troops at Laungchaung. Fighters on offensive patrol ma-chine-gunned anti-aircraft positions at Akyab aerodrome. They damaged small craft in the Mayu River area. One of our planes has not yet returned from these and other operations. A Chungking message states the recapture of Sinyang, important Japanese base in southern Honan, has been announced in a communique. This is considered the most significant Chinese victory for months. The communique also reports the recapture of Hushih, 36 miles to the north-east of Shankcheng, and other points in the Honan province. Advancing Chinese forces are closing in on the enemy positions near Kwangchuan, in Kwangshan. Over 6000 Japanese based at Yitu, in Shantung province, began an attack against Chinese positions a week ago. Other Japanese troops, moving eastward from. Hopei province towards Anhwei, have continued their advance after sanguinary fighting.
