LIKELY MILK SHORTAGE

i (0.C.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. A serious shortage of milk is likely in Christchurch - next winter. The dairy inspector of the Department of Agriculture, Mr. R. T. Coulter, said that he knew of a number of dairy farmers in a big way who were reducing the size of their herds because of labour problems and because they considered the return for their milk did not justify the work involved. Some farmers were also considering sending their milk to dairy factories rather than bother about the city supply. On the other hand, he said, the prospects for winter feed were excellnt.
