NIGHT OF PERIL
YACHT ENDANGERED
With the anchor of their yacht dragging and in exceedingly rough weather a man and a youth had a most uncomfortable experience off Waihi Beach this week. Members of a yachting party from Tauranga, they had stayed aboard while the others went ashore. In the meantime the wind had increased and the sea became very rough. The yacht dragged its anchor and was* making for some rocks. It was too rough for the Life-Saving Club to put out to sea and for hours the yacht stood in peril. Those on the shore telephoned to Tauranga to send a launch to tow the yacht out to sea. Hours passed and darkness fell, and a large crowd waited on the beach expecting the yacht to strike the rocks. Early in the morning the wind changed and the sea moderated. A launch from Tauranga was able to connect a line with the yacht and tow it out to sea.
