N.Z. RECRUIT
IN WOMEN'S ARMY CORPS OTTAWA, Oct. 13. New Zealand now has a representative in the ranks of the Canadian Women's Army Corps. She is Pte. Jeanne O. Y. Porteous, who, prevented by the war from returning home after attending Brigham Young University in Utah, went to Washington. where she worked as a filing and mail clerk with the Royal Air Force delegation. Considering she was not doing enough about the war, Pte. Porteous came to Canada a little more than a month ago and completed her basic training as a C.W.A.C. recruit, said a National Defence Department statement. She comes of a military family and has two brothers, Lieut. Robert Porteous, 29, captured by the Germans in the Battle of Crete, and 2nd-Lieut. James Porteous, 35, who is a prisoner in Italy.
