• MANY PETITION'S* HEARD

In the Supreme Court this morning Mr. Justice Fair and Mr. Justice Callan were both occupied in hearing undefended petitions_ for divorce. "I had £80 saved, and my husband got it from me. He spent it on himself, and then left me stranded," said Elizabeth Trevena (Mr. Henry), who succeeded in her petition for a divorce from Arthur William Trevena. Petitioner said she was married in September, 1936, and respondent deserted her the following February. He was at present employed on a coastal steamer in the Dominion.

On the ground of three years' separation, the petitioner in the following cases was granted a decree nisi:—Rhoda Elizabeth Collings (Mr. Cleal) against Henry Hubert Collings; Alma Berrington Hudson (Mr. Coleman) against Leonard Durant Hudson; Georgina Kay (Mr. Cocker) against Cecil Adam Kay; Albert Edward Kelly (Mr. Goodall) against Alice Mary Kathleen Kelly; Vera Barnett (Mr. Garland) against Richard Horace Barnett; Thomas Eden Sadgrove (Mr. Nutsford) against Vera Eveline Sadgrove. Herbert Henry North (Mr. Sullivan) against Irene Olive North (Mr. Matthews).

Desertion was successfully pleaded by the petitioners in the following cases:—Edward Hunt (Mr. Snedden) against Ailsa Danby Hunt; Agnes Carlyle (Mr. Nutsford) against Arthur Leslie Gordon Carlyle; Ivy Bellringer (Mr. Nutsford) against Onslow Clyde BeHringer; Elizabeth May Hoffman (Mr. Fleming) against James Hoffman; Elsie Masefield (Mr. Simson) against Robert William Geoffrey Masefield; Patu Peihopa (Mr. Trimmer) against Erina Peihopa; Catherine Smith (Mr. Nutsford) against David Buchan Smith.

Adultery was the ground upon which the petitioner was granted a decree nisi in the following cases:— Bernard Thomas Zimmerman (Mr. Gieson) against Maidie Laura Zimmerman and Leslie Allan (corespondent); Hemi Kuti Peita (Mr. Trimmer) against Kari Tiari Peita and Patu Peihopa (co-respondent). Respondents having failed to comply with an order for restitution of conjugal rights, a decree nisi was granted the petitioners in the following cases:—Dulcie Alma Bourne (Mr. King) against Leslie Ivan Bourne; Francis Richard James Dean (Mr. Cleal) against Helen Maria Dean. Ordered to Return An order for thfe respondents to return to the petitioner was made in the following cases:—Rudolph Otto Lindner (Mr. Armstrong) against Dorothy Irene Woodhead Lindner; Violet Nora Roxborough (Miss Anderson) against William Henry Charles Roxborough.
