TOOK SEVEN CARS
CONVERSION CHARGES
SIX MONTHS FOR SOLDIER
"The consideration you have received in the past does not seem to have put you on the right track and so you must be punished substantially," said Mr. J- Morhng, S.M.. to a soldier in battledress, Frederick Lawrence Wigg, aged 2-, who appeared and pleaded guilty in the Police Court to seven charges ot unlawfully converting to his own use motor cars of a total value of £1265. , . , . . Senior Detective \\ alsh said that in four cases Wigg took cars from Auckland and in them drove back to the camp, where he was serving. Once he kept a car for two days and took it back to the city, where he abandoned it. Two cars were taken from the district where he was in camp and abandoned in the city. On the seventh occasion he was detected and arrested by Constable Willis 10 minutes after taking the car. "On a similar charge in 1940 Wigg was sentenced to three years' Borstal and he is at present on license," added Mr. Walsh. "His army record is not good and the army does not want him again." Wigg had nothing to say. On each of two charges Mr. Morling sentenced Wigg to three months' imprisonment, the terms to be cumulative. On the others he was convicted and discharged. Thus he will serve six months' imprisonment.
