OBITUARY
MR. ROBERT S. FORSYTH
NEW ZEALANDER IN LONDON
LONDON, Aug. 22
The death has occurred of Mr. Robert Sutherland Forsyth, formerly manager of the New Zealand Meat Producers' Board, after a six months' Illness In a London hospital. The Minister of Food, Lord Woolton, in a tribute to Mr. Forsyth, said the success of the meat control arrangements was due in no small measure to Mr. Forsyth's farsightedness, knowledge and influence. "Those of us who knew him best," added the Minister, "valued him also for his practical common sense and loyalty, also tor his generous character, strong personality and unfailing cheerfulness." Mr. Forsyth was born in Dunedin In 1880. He was educated in Dunedin and joined the National Mortgage and Agency Company in 1896. He was In charge of the produce and merchandise department In Dunedin for ten years and later was in charge of branches in Ashburton and Timaru. He was chairman of the South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce from 1922-1923. He had represented New Zealand on the Empire Marketing Board and the Imperial Economic Committee in London «lnce 1925, and on the Imperial Committee for Economic Co-opera-tion since 1933. He was the adviser to the New Zealand Government at the Imperial Conference in Ottawa In 1932, and president of the British Association of Refrigeration in 1934. He was awarded the C.M.G. in 1933 and th« Jubilee Medal. Formerly the manager of the Meat Producers' Boara, he became, after the outbreak of war, the Director of Imported Meat Supplies to the Ministry of Food.
