MORE WOMEN POLICE
ADVICE FROM MINISTER
According to a letter received yesterday by the Mayor. Mr. J A C. Allum, from the Minister in Charge of Police, Mr. Webb, the Government proposes to increase the number of women police. Mr. Webb said candidates were now being selected for a course of training. At the conclusion of such training the strength at Auckland would be increased. The question of placing women police in uniform was under consideration. <
Since the appointment of women police, three have been stationed in Auckland. The Minister's letter was in reply to the Mayor's request that uniformed women police should be appointed to Auckland to deal with certain conditions regarding which complaints had been made to him.
