STATES TO APPEAL

NEW AUSTRALIAN TAX LAW Rec. 2 p.m. SYDNEY, this day. South Australia has joined Victoria in an appeal to the High Court against the legality of the Federal uniform income taxation legislation. The Queensland Premier, Mr. W. Forgan Smith, stated in Sydney that it is probable Queensland will join Victoria and South Australia in their appeal. He added that it was not l only the right but the duty of State | Premiers to oppose the Federal uniform income taxation legislation with all legal means in their power. "If the Premiers did not attack the legislation now, the States would have no case at the end of the war when whichever Government is in office will endeavour to extend those powers."
